Ethics and ethical practice
In organisational life, developing ethical maturity means going beyond regulation and compliance to focus on cultivating good judgment and qualities of character.
Ethics isn't about following a checklist; it's about building the inner core that allows you to lead with integrity when the checklist runs out. This needs us to move beyond, 'what ought I do?' towards a more foundational question: 'what sort of person do I want to be?'
This perspective is informed by my background working in challenging fieldwork settings, where simple rule-following is not enough for dealing with real ethical challenges and dilemmas as they arise. I've performed leadership roles related to the governance of ethics in academic settings. I've been fortunate enough to have a small number of excellent mentors, who've modeled how to lead with moral clarity and integrity.
